Overcoming cancer is not about treatments, it's about healing the body which has allowed cancer to grow in the first place. The word cancer generates ripples of fear in the general public and has always been associated with death. Science has taken major strides in the field of cancer management, but for many it still remains incurable. There are many myths related to cancer which need to be clarified. Winning over cancer requires self belief and commitment on the part of patient. Treating doctors should be aware of the latest treatment modality available along with backing of scientific evidence. Emotional well being is a very important aspect and needs to be taken care of while treating this disease. Now it is a proven fact that patient who are depressed had a worse outcome compared to the patients without depression. Overcoming cancer is not just treating the disease with chemotherapy, surgery or radiotherapy but is also to building self belief in the patient. More than physical strength, it is mental strength that is important. In this direction, the most important point is to have a positive attitude. Listening to music, doing meditation or yoga can help the patient to regain his calm and strengthen his inner self. Strength of thinking is enormous and its limit are far more than physical strength. Having a positive frame of mind will help your body to fight against this disease. I would like you to go through this famous story of a cold storage van cleaner. One stormy Sunday afternoon a man was cleaning the van from inside. This van was used to store frozen products for transport from one town to other town. While cleaning, suddenly the van got locked because of the wind. This man got stuck inside the van. He started shouting for help but as it was a Sunday, nobody was around to help him. Now he started feeling cold in the refrigeration van. He shouted for help again, but all in vain. He felt that he was freezing from cold. He started writing his feelings on the side walls of the van. He wrote "I am feeling very cold", "now it is chilling cold", "this cold is freezing my breath", "I don't think I can survive now", "I cannot move as I am almost frozen" and many such things. Ultimately he died. Next morning when the door was opened everybody was shocked when they saw the body and the writing on the wall. The reason for surprise was that the van was defective and its refrigeration system was not working. This man had imagined the extreme cold and his thoughts were so strong that they forced the body to believe and react accordingly. The moral of this story is: Think positive and this positive thinking will help your body to behave positively and will help it overcome cancer. |
